Which is your favourite game and why?
I’d have to say Deus Ex. This was an RPG set in the near future. You played a character that could augment his body using cybernetic implants. Essentially, you were like Robocop! You were constantly asked to make choices that completely changed your abilities – For example, do you get the robotic leg upgrade that lets you move silently past enemies, or do you choose the upgrade that lets you run at super speed? These choices permeated every part of the game.
For example, the very first mission is set in the ruins of the Statue of Liberty, which was attacked by terrorists. You have to infiltrate the area and take them down. You
can run in, guns blazing and shoot every last one. You can choose to sneak around, putting them to sleep with sleeping gas. Or you can choose to knock each character out with an electric Taser. The choices you make are reflected in the reactions of the people you meet later. If you chose the violent or sadistic route, your brother would berate you for being so inhumane. However, other people would congratulate you on your efficiency. Truly a game that offered complete player choice.
Do you play at home/office?
I’m lucky enough to be able to play at both places! Zynga encourages us to play new games, open ourselves up to new genres and gameplay.
How does your wife react to your addiction? Has there been a gradual change in her outlook over the years?
My wife is quite forgiving when it comes to my gaming needs. However there are times when I tend to get so lost in the game I’m playing, that I don’t even hear her speaking to me. That…doesn’t go well!
In earlier years, I’d spend time glued to the Xbox 360, while she spent time doing her own thing. When we were eating dinner, we focused on our time together. However,
with the advent of smart phones, that’s changed. I think there are wives all over India that are absolutely disgusted each time they look up from their dinner plate, only to find their loving husband gazing deep into the confines of his latest Android phone. It’s become almost a habit to play with the phone at meal times or when a group conversation starts to flag. It’s quite rude and I’m sure pretty much every wife has issues with it.
Does she get wild at times about the amount of time you spend on gaming?
She gets wild about her inability to pry my phone out of my hands! It becomes really bad when I give up my phone to her, only to pick up her iPhone a few minutes later and start playing a different game!
Are you also into gaming merchandise?
Lord, yes! I invariably try to purchase the ‘Special Edition’ of Xbox 360 games. I recently bought the special edition of Mass Effect 3, which comes with plastic armor
that you can use to replace the casing of your Xbox 360 Slim! Unfortunately, I have the original Xbox 360, so the plastic armour is useless to me. But I wanted it!
That’s all for now folks! Stay tuned to this space for more
